WOMANKIND – a study of the power of touch

I worked with two women, their bodies and their hands, to create this new work. I did several sessions of photographs which help determine the size and shape of the work. Then I cast isolated parts of their bodies, using a medium called alginate. After that I embark on a long process of different moulds in my studio, and then finally, at the end, the definitive mould is made in a foundry. This means the work will either be in Jesmonite, a strong and durable medium quite like plaster but much stronger, or else in bronze. I deliberately decided to concentrate on fragments of the female body — like looking through the lens of a camera at exactly the point of impact. The aim of the sculptures is to express love, empathy, kindness, sensuality.
